Lawrence ‘Deeply Disturbed’ by Harvey Weinstein Allegations: ‘This Kind of Abuse Is Inexcusable’

Jennifer Lawrence is adding her voice to the chorus of women speaking out against Harvey Weinstein amid allegations of decades of sexual misconduct.

In a statement released to PEOPLE, Lawrence said she was “deeply disturbed” to hear of the allegations against the Hollywood mogul.

“I was deeply disturbed to hear the news about Harvey Weinstein’s behavior,” she said. “I worked with Harvey five years ago and I did not experience any form of harassment personally, nor did I know about any of these allegations. This kind of abuse is inexcusable and absolutely upsetting.”

She continued: “My heart goes out to all of the women affected by these gross actions. And I want to thank them for their bravery to come forward.”

Lawrence, 27, won an Oscar in 2013 for Silver Linings Playbook, which was produced by Weinstein. She also thanked Weinstein during her Golden Globes acceptance speech for the film.

“Harvey, thank you for killing whoever you had to kill to get me up here today,” Lawrence said.

Meryl Streep, Judi Dench, Kate Winslet and more have all voiced their disapproval of Weinstein’s alleged conduct.

On Sunday, Weinstein was removed from his powerhouse film studio in the wake of the publication of the allegations in a New York Times report, according to Variety.

“In light of new information about misconduct by Harvey Weinstein that has emerged in the past few days, the directors of The Weinstein Company — Robert Weinstein, Lance Maerov, Richard Koenigsberg and Tarak Ben Ammar — have determined, and have informed Harvey Weinstein, that his employment with The Weinstein Company is terminated, effective immediately,” the Weinstein Company said in a statement.

In the Times article, eight women — including actress Ashley Judd — spoke out against Weinstein, accusing him of sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior. The Times also reported that Weinstein reached private settlements with eight women, including actress Rose McGowan.

Weinstein responded to the allegations in the report, saying he was working with a therapist to address his issues head-on. “I appreciate the way I’ve behaved with colleagues in the past has caused a lot of pain, and I sincerely apologize for it,” he said. “Though I’m trying to do better, I know I have a long way to go.”

The mogul’s then-attorney Lisa Bloom said in a statement that her client “denies many of the accusations as patently false,” though Weinstein said that he “bear[s] responsibility for my actions” in an interview to The New York Post on Friday. Another lawyer for Weinstein, Charles Harder, said the mogul has plans to sue the New York Times.

Jennifer Lawrence is taking a two-year break from acting

Jennifer Lawrence is ready to step back from acting.

The “mother!” star announced her decision on “Today” Thursday morning.

“I’m taking [a break]. I don’t have anything set for two years,” Lawrence, 27, revealed to Savannah Guthrie.

The former “Hunger Games” star isn’t sure how she’ll spend her time off — though she did seem intrigued by Guthrie’s suggestion of spending more time in sweatpants — but she does have one idea.

“Start making pots,” Lawrence joked.

The actress also discussed the drawbacks of fame in her interview.

“I was angry and resentful because I thought that I deserved the right to do what I love and do my job and then still have privacy. And then after a few years you’re like but that’s not the way it is,” Lawrence said. “It’s important to just keep a separation and know that the people who are screaming outside a premier, they’re screaming because of a job and a character…I don’t put any stock in it. ”

Lawrence — who is currently dating “mother!” director Darren Aronofsky — called her latest role “much darker” than what she normally takes on and disclosed that she had to listen to Christmas music to get out of the film’s mindset.

“I threw the script and was like I can’t have this in my house. I don’t want this in my home. It’s an assault. It’s really assaulting,” she said. “But that’s what makes it a masterpiece and that’s what makes Darren so brilliant and that’s why I’ve always wanted to work with him.”

Though she’s taking a break now, Lawrence’s fans shouldn’t worry about the star’s complete disappearance. She still has a few projects left to promote, including next year’s “X-Men: Dark Phoenix.”

“I’ll see you in six months,” she quipped at the close of the interview.

J Law ‘Not Pretty Enough’ to Play Sharon Tate … Says Sister Debra

Margot Robbie has the chops and beauty to play Sharon Tate in a Quentin Tarantino movie about the Manson murders, but Jennifer Lawrence … not so much, at least according to Sharon’s sister.

Debra Tate told us if the Sharon role comes down to Margot or Jennifer … Margot’s the clear choice … and it’s not ONLY because of looks. Sounds like an unkind cut, but Debra explained why she’s not taking a shot at J Law.

According to a report … Tarantino’s putting finishing touches on a script for the Manson project, and both actresses are in the running for roles, though it’s not clear who they’d play.

Debra added she’s yet to hear a peep from Tarantino … which could be a problem because she owns the rights to her sister Sharon’s image and likeness.

Quentin Tarantino Wants J-Law for Mason Murder Biopic

Quentin Tarantino is quietly starting to put together his latest project, and is talking to A-list actors for what is promising to be a unique take on the Manson Family murders.

The project, whose title is unknown, was written by Tarantino, who would also direct. Harvey and Bob Weinstein, who have produced and executive produced Tarantino’s previous films, are involved, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter.

WME is said to be in the early stages of shopping the project to studios to co-finance and co-distribute the venture, similar to the way Tarantino and the Weinsteins made the filmmaker’s 2009 movie Inglourious Basterds, which had Universal Studios as a financial and distributing partner. Sources say that Tarantino is putting the finishing touches on the script and that Brad Pitt, who worked with the filmmaker on Basterds, and Jennifer Lawrence have been approached. Studios could receive the package after Labor Day, according to one source. The plan is to shoot in 2018, possibly in the summer.

Script details are scant but one of the stories centers on Sharon Tate, the actress and wife of director Roman Polanski who was murdered by Manson and his followers in 1969.

Manson had ordered a group of his followers to attack the inhabitants of a house in the Benedict Canyon area of Los Angeles, believing it was owned by a record producer who earlier had rejected him.

Over the course of several hours on the night of Aug. 8, the four followers, using guns and knives, brutally killed Tate, who was eight months pregnant, and four other occupants.

In 1971, Manson and members of his crew were sentenced to life imprisonment for these and several other murders committed that summer.

If the Manson-Tate project does become Tarantino’s next film, it will be his first movie based on true events.

Any talks with actors are in the early stages, and one insider said that Lawrence is not considering the Tate role.

‘Dark Universe’ Producer Wants to Add Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, and Other A-Listers

The Mummy opens this Friday, and it’s supposed to signal the beginning of Universal’s Dark Universe franchise based around classic movie monsters. Producer and Mummy director Alex Kurtzman has been one of the guiding forces of this franchise alongside Chris Morgan (Fast & Furious), and he already has an outline of the films they want to tackle going forward.

Speaking to Fandom, Kurtzman said:

“We know we’re going to do Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, Dracula, Creature from the Black Lagoon, Phantom of the Opera, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Invisible Man,” he says.

If Dracula is on the list, that’s probably the final nail in the coffin for Dracula Untold ever being considered part of this universe. Sorry, Luke Evans.

However, there are some other actors Kurtzman would like to bring into the fold. He tells Fandom, “I’d love to bring Michael Fassbender in, I’d love to bring Jennifer Lawrence in, I’d love to see Charlize Theron in there, Angelina Jolie…”

It’s worth noting that the next film in the Dark Universe, Bill Condon’s Bride of Frankenstein, still doesn’t have its title character, and I could easily see the studio eager to cast Lawrence, Theron, or Jolie in the role. Javier Bardem is already signed on to play Frankenstein.

While I understand Kurtzman’s eagerness to get the franchise rolling, one of the things I’ve admired is that they’re not getting ahead of themselves. While roles have been cast such as Johnny Depp as the Invisible Man, they’re not setting down release dates and then rushing to meet them. Bride of Frankenstein is the only movie on the schedule, and it’s not due out until 2019. That gives them plenty of time to figure out how to tackle all of these other pictures.

That being said, we’ll have to wait and see how The Mummy performs over the weekend to see if audiences are really interested in this new world of gods and monsters.
